Mary Guiden

Mary is a freelance writer who has specialized in covering health, medicine and scientific research. She’s been a writer for half her life, or 30 years, and was initially drawn to journalism to shine more sunlight on women’s health issues and domestic violence. Along the way, she also wrote about music, interviewing artists including Rufus Wainwright and Taylor Swift and covering shows like Ozzfest. Mary previously worked as a science writer at the University of Washington and Colorado State University (CSU) and excels at media relations. She received top honors four years in a row from the Public Relations Society of America – Colorado Chapter in media relations, including recognition for successfully pitching a story on veterinary cardiology to NBC News’ Weekend TODAY show. Mary was also recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for research, medicine and science news writing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped promote CSU researchers’ role to help the most vulnerable people in our communities – residents in long-term care communities. She also worked with scientific experts to combat misinformation about topics including the use of ivermectin to fight the coronavirus.
